Handfastings & Weddings

Are you looking to:

  • Get married or civil partershipped, but not into having a traditional wedding ceremony?
  • Have a wedding ceremony that honours your personalities, passions, and love story?
  • Have an unforgettable wedding ceremony that is deeply meaningful to yourself and your beloved?
  • Involve your guests in your ceremony?

I am here to help!

I help co-create moving and beautiful ceremonies that reflect your love. Together we can co-create the wedding ceremony of your dreams - wether that's in a woodland being sprinkled by rose petals, at a grand ballroom decorated with candles, or even on kayaks in the middle of a lake: creativity is my speciality.

Handfasting

As a Pagan Priestess, I specialise in handfastings!

A hand fasting is a beautiful and moving ceremony that is available for everyone to experience. It's the traditional wedding of the people, and it where the expression "to tie the knot" comes from! In a handfasting, the couple make their vows and have their hands tied together by silk ribbons, blessed with well wishes and good fortune by their wedding attendees.

What happens at a handfasting?

During a handfasting we call in the four elements and qualities of love - air, fire, water and earth - to bless your marriage and tell your love story.

With air, you share your love story with your guests.

With fire, you confess your love to each other.

At water, you make your formal vows to one another and drink from the loving cup.

With earth, you exchange rings and bind yourselves to one another in devotion.

And then you are handfasted, your hands tied together with silk ribbons, and your guests come and bless your marriage and share their well-wishes with you and tie on ribbons of their own!

After the ceremony, you keep the knotted ribbons and well-wishes as a souvenir of your wedding and all the blessings you received from your friends and family.

Handfastings are my speciality and are amazing for all weddings - and especially appropriate for any pagan, medieval theme, or out in nature weddings.

Weddings & Handfastings Q&A

How are Celebrant weddings different from traditional weddings?
With a registrant wedding, ceremonies have to take place in specific government-approved venues. Weddings with me can take place anywhere and take any form you like. The structure, what you say and what you do is up to you - we can use our handfasting format or deviate with your desires.

As your celebrant, I will offer support, advice, co-create your ceremony with you and lead the ceremony on the day. This gives you greater creativity, the opportunity to create a ceremony that is deeply personal and meaningful to you and your beloved,

Is a wedding with you legal?
Unfortunately a handfasting is not yet a legal service, meaning you will still need to have a civil ceremony. Don't let this put you off though - registering a civil partnership or having a statutory marriage ceremony (doing the legal bit) can be carried out for less than £50 at a registry office, and will take less than ten minutes. Then you are free to have the ceremony (the fun bit) you desire!

Do you perform weddings for LGBTQ+ folks?
OF COURSE! Love is love!

Do I have to be a pagan to have a handfasting?
Many people love the sacredness and ritual of a handfasting ceremony, even if they don't identify as pagan. You don't have to be of any particular religion or any spiritual affinity to get hand fasted - it's a traditional celtic thing, not necessarily a spiritual thing.

Can we call in our deities during the ceremony?
Of course! We can make it a fully pagan event if you desire - I am a pagan priestess after all!

What if I have a fabulous (or outlandish!) wedding theme?
Bring it! Nothing could be more fun - if you want to get married by a mermaid in a martini glass, we can do it. If your theme is a woodland fairy tale, or a glamorous Great Gatsby, a Wonder Woman themed wedding or anything in-between, I am here for it. Let's create something stunning.

Do we HAVE to have a handfasting?
Not at all. I'm a professional ceremonialist so we can create a wedding ceremony that fits and suits your tastes, desires and beliefs: as elegant or as wild as you like.
